Named for cattle, which a long time ago dotted its lovely slopes, Cow Mountain a recreational area located in Ukiah, CA is maintained and preserved by BLM (Bureau of Land Management).
Spread across 52, 000 acres, it is a place with plenty of great prospects for pleasurable and fun filled activities.
Discovery Inn near the Cow Mountain

Cow Mountain Off-highway vehicles (OHV)
For people who enjoy OHVs or off-highway vehicles, Cow Mountain has a particular spot in the park’s southern part. Whether you like ATVs, motorcycles or wish to test a 4-wheel drive by a truck, Cow Mountain’s OHV area provides challenging trails covering 125 miles.
For the convenience of people, there are two OHV (off-highway vehicle) staging areas and two campgrounds.
North Cow Mountain Activities
While Cow Mountain’s southern part is basically dedicated to OHVs, the northern area is for the non-motorized activities. The hikers would love exploring the whole setup of brilliantly designed hiking trails that are spanning around seventeen miles. Even the equestrians are allowed to bring the horses to the beautiful Cow Mountain Recreational Area and stroll around the wide network of trails. Another challenging and fun activity highly popular among the visitors to this magnificent place is mountain biking.
Flora and Fauna in Cow Mountain
Perfect for the mountain goats and also the cattle which once dominated this area, the rugged Cow Mountain terrain is both beauteous and challenging at the same time. With an altitude ranging from eight hundred to four thousand feet above the sea level, people who climb these slopes are rewarded with the breathtaking Ukiah views and clear lake. Besides, the wildlife which roams around Cow Mountain Recreational Area includes bear, black tail deer and wild turkey. Oak, fir and pine trees are also found all over the area.
